NEW ORLEANS – Huston-Tillotson volleyball player
Hayley Broussard was named the HBCU Athletic Conference's Freshman of the Week following her performances during the week of August 25 through 31, the conference announced Tuesday.
Â
Broussard led the Rams with 18 kills and a .293 hitting percentage during the Texas Two Step Tournament hosted by Texas Wesleyan and Nelson universities. She had a high of nine kills in a sweep of Red River Athletic Conference school Louisiana Christian.
Â
She also led the Rams' front row defense with 12 blocks.
Â
A true freshman from West Columbia, Texas (Columbia), Broussard is the first HT volleyball player to earn a weekly award from the HBCU Athletic Conference. Huston-Tillotson joined the NAIA-affiliated league in July.
Â
Broussard's award was the first weekly conference award for a Ram volleyball player since
Elaina Spriggins was named the Red River Athletic Conference's Setter of the Week following matches the week of Oct. 28 through Nov. 3, 2024.
