AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University's volleyball team opens its season in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this weekend with four matches at the Texas Two Step event, co-hosted by Nelson University and Texas Wesleyan University.

The Rams will play three of their four matches at Nelson, the college formerly known as Southwestern Assemblies of God University, located in Waxahachie, Texas. HT opens the event with a 9 a.m. match Friday against Texas A&M–Texarkana at the Sheaffer Full Life Center on the Nelson campus.

A gap of approximately six hours between the end of HT's first match and the start of their second match will be just enough time for the Rams to have lunch and battle the Metroplex traffic as they make their way to Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth. There, the Rams will face Evangel (Mo.), with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m.

Saturday will see the Rams back at Nelson University for back-to-back matches against Rochester Christian (Mich.) and Louisiana Christian at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

In her third year as the head coach of HT's volleyball team, LaTonya Washington brings in her biggest class of her HT tenure. Though young, her squad should bring excitement to Bluebonnet Hill and Mary E. Gymnasium, with a pair of seniors leading the way.

Outside hitter Chloe Gaytan led the Rams with 278 kills as a junior in 2024, averaging 3.35 kills per set; she also recorded 10 or more digs in a match six times during the season. Gaytan (San Antonio, Texas/Veterans Memorial) was named to the All-RRAC Second Team at the conclusion of last season.

The Rams also reloaded their defense with the addition of senior transfer Taylor Fisher. A product of Del Valle, Texas, and a transfer from NCAA Division II institution Henderson State (Ark.), Fisher will be among Washington's talented back-row players who will fill the void left by Danelle McCullough, who graduated this spring after earning All-RRAC honors.
