HAWKINS, Texas – Huston-Tillotson University's women's soccer team came up short in their 2024 Red River Athletic Conference opener Thursday as the Rams were defeated 5-2 at Jarvis Christian.
Kayla Evans made an immediate impact for the Rams in her HT debut. A senior transfer from NCAA Division I Mississippi Valley State, Evans scored both goals for the Rams in Thursday's contest; she opened the scoring with a strike in the eighth minute and scored again in the 62nd minute.
Four different Jarvis Christian players accounted for the five Bulldog goals. HT's Juliet Morales-Martinez and JCU's Andrea Cepeda made one save apiece in goal for their respective teams.
Nathalia Herreros assisted on Evans' first goal for the Rams;
Jennifer Cruz provided the assist on the second goal.
HT was scheduled to continue their trip in northeast Texas on Saturday, but their match at Texas College was postponed. The Rams return to action Thursday, Sept. 26, when they host Texas A&M–Texarkana at the Onion Creek soccer fields. The women's match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
