Rams set to open 2026 softball season

1/27/2026 6:15:00 AM

The 2026 spring season will be a season of transition for the Huston-Tillotson University softball program.

A new coaching staff is in place. The program has entered a new conference, the HBCU Athletic Conference. There is also a new philosophy which is centered around speed, athleticism, and versatility.

Sophomore Alayali Alaniz leads the way offensively as the Rams top returner. She is expected to have a strong, productive season throughout her sophomore campaign.

The return of senior Denae Hernandez, who will occupy the shortstop position, will be critical for stability on the infield. Sophomore Kayla Guerrero looks to continue developing after a fall which has seen good progress.

Along with Hernandez, it will be the final season for two more seniors as catcher Aliyah Resendiz and infielder Madison Stimpson are set to represent the institution one more time this spring.

For the first time in a while, the HT softball program welcomes a few mid year transfers.  Utility Hailey Jane Holder and centerfielder Mia Rubio have been brought in to help move this program forward in a positive direction.

The pitching staff will be comprised of Holder along with juniors Marleigh Robinson and Alexis Tamez.  Robinson is the lone holdover from the pitching staff. Tamez has come in after spending the past two seasons playing junior college softball in Texas.

Look for freshmen Kieana Cruz and Alexis Gaona to make significant contributions in their first college campaigns as well. Ciara Cantu and Mackenzie Turner will also contribute throughout the season in the infield and outfield respectively.

Junior outfielder/third baseman Isabella Roblero should lead the team in stolen bases this season provided she stays healthy, available, and productive throughout the spring.

The Rams will seek to make the conference tournament for the first time since 2017. Having composed one of the tougher non-conference schedules in recent memory, the program continues to increase awareness as it moves in a positive direction. It is a schedule that could very well prepare them for that elusive postseason opportunity.
