NEW ORLEANS – Huston-Tillotson University sophomore Alayali Alaniz claimed the HBCU Athletic Conference's first Softball Player of the Week award for the 2026 season. She was honored for her performance in games between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1, the conference announced Tuesday.
In her first action of the season, Alaniz (La Joya, Texas / La Joya) knocked three hits in her nine at-bats, good for a team-leading .333 batting average for the week. She hit a two-run homerun in HT's season-opening contest against McMurry on Friday.
Last season, Alaniz hit .411 and knocked 17 RBIs while scoring 19 runs; she had 10 extra-base hits of her 39 hits in 2025.
The Rams return to action this weekend with four games at the SCS NAIA Invitational this weekend in Mesquite, Texas. They open the weekend schedule against Tabor (Kan.) at 12:50 p.m. All games will be played at the Mesquite Girls Softball Complex, located at 1717 McKenzie Rd., Mesquite, TX 75181.
