MEN'S SOCCER: Rams forced to settle for 2-2 draw against Texas College

WACO, Texas – The Rams of Huston-Tillotson University controlled the pace of play for most of the match Monday but had to settle for a 2-2 draw against rival Texas College.

Playing down a player for most of the second half due to a controversial call that sent off Anderson Duarte in the 49th minute, the Rams (3-7-1, 2-6-1 RRAC) rallied for two goals in the second half and led most of the frame before the Steers leveled with less than seven minutes before the final whistle.

Responding to Duarte's straight red card, Pablo Gonzalez netted his third goal of the season off a corner kick from Luis Uriostegui in the 52nd minute. Gonzalez then assisted on HT's go-ahead goal in the 64th minute when Juan Pedro Alvarado's strike found the back of the net.

Texas College got the equalizer from Ignacio Trejos in the 84th minute, which proved to be the final score of the match, giving the Steers (0-10-1, 0-9-1 RRAC) their first points of the season.

The draw left a bitter taste with the Rams, who outshot their opponents 16-5 in the first half but trailed 1-0 at the intermission. Despite playing down for the final 41 minutes of the match, HT still outshot Texas College 7-4 in the second half and held a 23-9 advantage in shots by the end of the match.

Giusepe Aguzzi made six saves for the Rams in goal; his record moved to 3-3-1 for the season.

Monday's contest was a makeup for the contest originally scheduled for Sept. 16 that was postponed due to rain and lightning in the Austin area. The match was moved to Waco, the approximate midway point between Austin and Tyler.

The Rams continue Red River Athletic Conference play Thursday when they travel to the Greater Houston area to face league newcomer North American University. The men's and women's doubleheader will be played at Dulles High School in Sugar Land.
