WOMEN'S SOCCER: Rams shut out Texas College

WACO, Texas – Huston-Tillotson's women's soccer team took care of business against a short-handed Texas College team Monday as the Rams claimed a 6-0 victory over the Steers.

In a contest that was originally scheduled for Sept. 16 but was postponed due to rain and lightning in Austin, six different HT players scored goals as the Rams (2-10) improved their Red River Athletic Conference record to 2-7.

Playing in her hometown, Liziany De La Fuente picked up the match-winning strike when she scored from a pass from America Macias in the eighth minute. It was De La Fuente's second goal in as many contests.

Macias was HT's high-scorer, as she handed out two assists in the first half before finding the back of the net herself 10 minutes before the match's final whistle.

Alexandria Aragon netted her first goal of the season in the 19th minute to stretch HT's lead to 2-0; her strike capped a passing sequence from Macias and Jennifer Cruz that gave both teammates assists.

Alondra Quiroz claimed her second goal of the season in the 28th minute that increased the HT lead to 3-0. Cheyanna Burnett-Griffith then scored her first goal of the season in the 37th minute for the Rams.

HT ended the half with a 5-0 lead thanks to a well-placed corner kick from Noelia Garcia that found Naidelin Sanchez, who scored seconds before the halftime whistle.

The Rams continue Red River Athletic Conference play Thursday when they travel to the Greater Houston area to face league newcomer North American University. The men's and women's doubleheader will be played at Dulles High School in Sugar Land.
