WOMEN'S HOOPS: Rams sweep pair from CBS–Houston

AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University's women's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a pair of wins over the College of Biblical Studies–Houston this week.

The Rams overwhelmed their guests 106-19 in the season-opener Saturday in Austin, and then claimed an 87-35 win on the road Tuesday.

Seven different Rams players scored in double-figures Saturday, with Destiny Stanford's 16 points leading the way. HT starters Dyana Offutt and Anessa Dussette scored 13 points and 11 points, respectively.

The HT bench provided four more double-digit scorers for the Rams, including the game's only double-double from Summer Thomas (10 points, 13 rebounds). Danielle Porter scored 13 points, followed by Na'Caia Jackson's 12 points and 10 points from Aakiyah Sorrells.

A large home crowd saw the Rams eclipse 100 points for the first time since Jan. 29, 2016, when HT defeated LSU–Alexandria 102-79 at Branch Gymnasium. The 106 points were the most points scored by an HT women's team since the Rams' 98-79 win at Texas College on Feb. 8, 2020.

The Rams scored at least 25 points and held the visiting Ambassadors to single-digit points in all four quarters Saturday.

Tuesday's visit to Houston also saw the Rams leave victorious as HT won 87-35.

At Fallbrook Church in Houston, Offutt scored a game-high 21 points, while Dussette added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field; both players added six steals to their stat line. Porter chipped in 12 points off the bench.

The Rams return to action Tuesday, Nov. 21, when they make the short trip across IH-35 to visit St. Edward's. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
