CEDAR PARK, Texas – Huston-Tillotson University's men's basketball team came up a bit short Friday against Dillard (La.) as the Bleu Devils claimed a 74-62 win in the last game of the Austin Area Urban League HBCU Classic.
At the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, four different Dillard players scored in double-figures to lead the Bleu Devils (2-2) to victory. Carter Jeffries' 18 points off the Dillard bench led all scorers in the game.
HT's
Auston Chatman turned in the Rams' first double-double performance of the season, tallying team-highs of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Taevon Anderson came off the HT bench and scored 10 points and secured seven rebounds, while
Faybeyon Shelton chipped in nine points for the Rams.
The game was close for the duration of the contest, but a 43-point second half for Dillard gave the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference representatives a more comfortable margin. Dillard led throughout the second half.
HT shot 41.7 percent (5 of 12) from 3-point range during the second half; however, the Rams were hindered by a 20-percent showing (4 of 20) from inside the 3-point circle after halftime.
The Rams return to action Friday when they play the first of two contests at the Tabor College Classic in Hillsboro, Kan. HT faces Tabor College on Friday at 8 p.m., then meets Sterling College (Kan.) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
