WOMEN'S HOOPS: LSU–Alexandria defeats Rams 61-45

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Huston-Tillotson University's women's basketball team settled for a split in Rapides Parish, La., this weekend after falling 61-45 Saturday at LSU–Alexandria.

The Generals (12-3, 9-1 RRAC) outscored their guests 18-11 in both the second and third periods to seize control of the game. LSUA scored 11 unanswered points between the 8:30 and 5:11 marks of the second quarter to take a lead the Generals would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

Danielle Porter scored 10 points and pulled in seven rebounds to lead the Rams (7-6, 5-6 RRAC). Anessa Dussette scored nine points off the HT bench.

Jewel Jones scored a game-high 15 points to lead three LSUA players scoring in double-figures.

LSUA's defense proved to be problematic for the Rams most of the game as they were limited to 30.4 percent (21 of 69) shooting from the floor during the game. Compounding HT's troubles were limited opportunities at the free throw line, as the Rams shot only three free throws Saturday, missing all three.

The Rams return to action Thursday, Jan. 25, when they host Texas College to open a two-game homestand. Tipoff between HT and the visiting Steers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
