AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University's women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped Saturday as the Rams fell 68-45 to undefeated Xavier (La.).
Four Xavier starters scored in double-figures as the Gold Nuggets improved their season record to 7-0 (4-0 RRAC). Joy Campbell and Kam Shelley scored 17 points apiece for Xavier.
Freshman guard
Aliyah Carter scored 12 points to lead the Rams (4-3), who saw their Red River Athletic Conference record fall to 3-1.
Destiny Stanford and
Gabby Cantu chipped in seven points apiece for HT; Cantu's seven points marked a career high for the sophomore.
Xavier led for more than 35 of the game's 40 minutes but the Rams stayed close to their visitors during the first half. The Gold Nuggets pulled away for good 13 unanswered points between the 9:07 and 3:35 marks of the third quarter that stretched Xavier's lead to 49-28.
The Nuggets shot 39.7 percent (25 of 63) from the floor, and shot 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) during their 20-point third quarter. HT was limited to 22.4 percent (13 of 58) shooting from the field; the Rams missed all 12 of their 3-point tries.
Serese Williams scored five points for the Rams, while
Summer Thomas added four points, a team-high seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.
The Rams return to action right after Thanksgiving when they host North American (Texas) for an afternoon contest Saturday, Nov. 30. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
