SHREVEPORT, La. – Huston-Tillotson University's women's basketball team concluded their first road trip to Louisiana of the season Saturday with a 69-31 setback at LSU–Shreveport.
Paula Gonzalez Herrero scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting in only 18 minutes of action off the Shreveport bench to lead the Pilots (9-3, 8-1 RRAC), who received votes in the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
The shorthanded Rams (5-7, 4-5 RRAC) were led by
Destiny Stanford's eight points in the loss.
Gabby Cantu,
Tyaija Coleman, and
Jade Hilliary scored six points apiece for Huston-Tillotson.
Coleman also pulled in eight rebounds in the game, while
Aliyah Carter recorded five steals and seven rebounds in addition to her two points.
LSU–Shreveport led from start to finish as the Pilots scored the first 14 points of the game. The home team led 22-4 after the first quarter and controlled the pace of the game for the remainder of the contest.
The Rams return to action Tuesday, Dec. 17, when they host Texas College in a Red River Athletic Conference matchup, the team's final game before the Christmas break. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The game against Texas College had been scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 21, but was moved ahead to Dec. 17 to allow the players to enjoy a longer holiday vacation.
