MANCHACA, Texas – Huston-Tillotson University's women's soccer team claimed its first win of the 2024 season in convincing fashion Wednesday as the Rams defeated Arlington Baptist 7-0.
In a match that was originally scheduled for Aug. 24, six different HT players scored goals for the Rams, who enter Red River Athletic Conference play next week with a 1-2 record in non-conference contests.
Isabella Olivo scored two goals in the second half to lead the Rams' attack. She opened the second half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute to stretch HT's lead to 4-0, and then notched her second goal in the 78th minute off assists from
Noelia Garcia and
America Macias.
Naidelin Sanchez was credited with the match-winning goal barely a minute into the match. She recovered a shot that was deflected by Arlington Baptist's goalkeeper and put home the rebound for her first goal of the year 77 seconds after the opening whistle.
Angela Zambrano gave the Rams a 2-0 lead in the third minute, with
Neydelyn Bonilla and
Sidney Cansino getting assists. The Rams stretched their lead to 3-0 with a goal from
Alondra Quiroz in the 28th minute off a pass from Olivo.
HT added two extra insurance goals in the final three minutes of the contest.
Nathalia Herreros converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute, and freshman Tachi Etienne scored off a pass from Bonilla right before the final whistle of the match.
Juliet Morales-Martinez started in goal and picked up the win with a flawless first half.
Zoey Gonzales played the second half and made one save.
The Rams open conference play Thursday, Sept. 19, when they visit Jarvis Christian in Hawkins, Texas.
