DALLAS – Huston-Tillotson University's women's basketball team came up empty Saturday in their quest for their first HBCU Athletic Conference victory as they fell 83-52 at Paul Quinn College.

The Rams (3-6) fell to 0-4 in conference play with the loss. Wilashia Burleson led the Rams with 14 points and six rebounds. Xaria Culver added 10 points and four steals for the Rams, while Destiny Stanford chipped in nine points and five assists for HT.

Tamia Dolls' 17 points led five Paul Quinn Tigers in scoring in double-figures. The Tigers (10-3) improved to 5-0 in conference play.

HT played from behind for most of the contest, but the Rams kept themselves close to their hosts as the Tigers took a 32-21 lead into halftime. Paul Quinn pulled away the Rams with a strong showing in the third quarter that saw the Tigers outscore their guests 17-1 over the first eight minutes of the period.

NOTEWORTHY:

• The Rams' 18 turnovers were four fewer than was committed by Paul Quinn …

• … but the Tigers led the prowl Saturday by shooting 47 percent (28 of 59) from the floor. Meanwhile, the Rams were held to 23 percent shooting (17 of 75) from the field.

• Paul Quinn's women snapped a six-game losing streak to the Rams dating back to the 2021-22 season.

• Saturday's win was the also the Tigers' first home triumph over HT since Paul Quinn College opened its Health & Wellness Center arena; the elaborate artwork on the arena floor depicting the Dallas skyline in the 1920s brought national attention to the college when the arena opened in 2019.

UP NEXT:

The Rams hit the road again to visit Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas, on Tuesday, Dec. 16. WBU's women's basketball team is known as the Flying Queens – while all other men's and women's teams on campus are the Pioneers – and have won more games than any other women's college basketball team at any level in the U.S.

Tipoff between the Rams and this year's 3-7 Flying Queens is scheduled for noon.
