AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University's athletic communications office was among the honorees announced this week for the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest.
Alan Wiederhold-Sohn, who is completing his second academic year as Huston-Tillotson University's sports information director, was named the runner-up for CSC's District 6 College Division in the Coach/Administrator Profile category.
The entry submitted by Wiederhold profiled HT head softball coach Kacey Hvitved and her team as they prepared for the 2025 season after both the 2023 and 2024 seasons were cancelled after only a few games.
The CSC's College Division includes all colleges, universities, and athletic conferences that are primarily affiliated with the NAIA, the NCAA's divisions II and III, and all two-year college institutions and conferences. Region 6 includes schools in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
A 17-year athletics communication veteran, Wiederhold returned to HT in July 2023 after beginning his career as a basketball-only communications officer at the university during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.
The honor is Wiederhold's second in as many years representing Huston-Tillotson. Last year, he placed third in the Game Notes category of the NAIA's publication contests. In 2021, he was honored by the CSC for his Texas A&M–San Antonio softball game notes.
