HT welcomes sports information director Alan Wiederhold to athletics staff

AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University's athletic administration formally announced the hiring of Alan Wiederhold-Sohn as the institution's next sports information director.

A native of the Houston suburb of Deer Park, Texas, Wiederhold joins HT after three years at other Red River Athletic Conference institutions. He most recently served as the sports information director at Louisiana Christian University and Texas A&M–San Antonio.

Though he will be joining HT's full-time athletic staff for the first time, Wiederhold returns to the university that gave him his first professional (non-student) work in collegiate athletic media relations. He served as the SID for HT's basketball teams on a seasonal, contract basis during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons while he was also the sports editor at the Seguin Gazette newspaper.

"The opportunity to return to Huston-Tillotson to continue my athletic media relations career was too good to ignore," Wiederhold said. "I am very excited to help promote HT's athletics program and athletes and help build the athletic brand at an institution that was integral to my professional development."

Since his first stint at Huston-Tillotson, Wiederhold has served as a director for athletic communications at Wiley College, Prairie View A&M, and Texas Southern University. While at A&M-San Antonio in 2021, he won his first College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Publications award for his softball game notes, which was the best spring sport game notes publication in the College Division, defined as all institutions not competing at the NCAA's Division I level.

In addition to his full-time work in college athletics, Wiederhold has served as a statistics inputter and public address announcer at numerous collegiate sporting events throughout Texas and the southeastern U.S.

During the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Wiederhold served as the official statistician for the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch professional softball team in Conroe, Texas. He was included in Scrap Yard's ring ceremony after the team won the National Pro Fastpitch Cowles Cup championship in 2017.

Other highlights from Wiederhold's career include leading a presentation on volleyball statistics at the CoSIDA convention in Dallas, Texas, in 2016, and serving as a statistician for Texas A&M University volleyball matches in 2016 and 2017. He was also the public address announcer for College Baseball Hall-of-Famer Wayne Graham's last home series as the head coach of Rice University in 2018.
