NEW ORLEANS – Huston-Tillotson University volleyball player
Lindsey Morris was named the HBCU Athletic Conference's Freshman of the Week following her performances in matches from Sept. 8 through 14, the league announced this week.
Â
A true freshman from Fort Worth, Texas (North Crowley), Morris reached double-figures in kills in each of HT's two victories Saturday at Tougaloo (Miss.). Morris knocked down 10 kills and hit .238 in the Rams' first-ever HBCUAC victory over Tougaloo and then added 11 kills hours later in non-conference win against Jarvis Christian.
Â
Morris has wasted no time making an impact for the Rams (3-7, 1-0 HBCUAC). She ranks second on the team in overall points (57.5, behind
Hayley Broussard's 63.5) and kills per set (1.79, behind
Chloe Gaytan's 1.82).
Â
Huston-Tillotson players have taken two of the four Freshman of the Week honors issued by the conference this season. Broussard was similarly honored two weeks ago after the Rams' season-opening weekend at the Texas Two Step in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Â
HT plays its first home match as a member institution of the HBCU Athletic Conference on Thursday, Sept. 18, when the Rams host Dillard (La.). The match will be streamed to the
Urban Edge Network.
Â
The Rams will attempt to exorcise Dillard's Bleu Devils beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at Mary E. Branch Gymnasium on the HT campus.
