HT Rams Student-Athlete of the Month: Destiny Stanford

Huston-Tillotson University women's basketball Destiny Stanford has been recognized as her sport's HT Rams Student-Athlete of the Month. She is the second women's basketball player to be honored as part of a new program to recognize HT's outstanding student-athletes in their sport and in the classroom.

Destiny is a HT graduate who is currently pursuing her Master of Business Administration degree at Huston-Tillotson. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Destiny is currently in her fourth year with the women's basketball team after starting her collegiate career at Neosho County Community College in Kansas.

She has started in a 63 of the 66 games in which she has played in each of her last three seasons and has started in every HT contest since the start of the 2024-25 season. Destiny averaged 10.1 points per game last year and is averaging 12.4 points and 4.2 assists per contest this season.

 

GET TO KNOW DESTINY:
Why did you choose to attend Huston-Tillotson University?
I chose Huston-Tillotson because when I toured the campus it felt like home, and everyone I met was very welcoming.
 
What does being a student-athlete at HT mean to you?
Being a student-athlete at HT means committing to being successful in both the classroom and on the court. It also means representing Huston-Tillotson with integrity and leadership.
 
What has been your biggest accomplishment so far this season?
My biggest accomplishment so far this season has been continuing to serve as a team captain and leader for the third year in a row.
 
Who or what motivates you to excel academically and athletically?
What motivates me is my family and the sacrifices that they've made to support me.
 
Who has had the biggest impact on your athletic journey and why?
My oldest sister has the biggest impact on my athletic career because she has always pushed me to work hard, to believe in myself and stay focused in everything I do.
 
How do you balance academics, athletics, and personal life?
I balance academics, athletics and personal life by always being organized and prioritizing my responsibilities and planning ahead of time.
 
What goals have you set for yourself for the remainder of the season?
A goal that I have set for myself for the remainder of the season is to be disciplined and to lead by example.
 
What is something about you that most people don't know?
I am the youngest in my family.
 
What advice would you give to future HT student-athletes?
I would tell future HT athletes to stay disciplined, manage their time wisely, and never lose sight of why you started.
 
What song gets you hyped before a game?
"WALK" by Hulvey and Lecrae
