Why did you choose to attend Huston-Tillotson University?
I chose Huston-Tillotson University because I wanted the love, culture, and support that HBCUs pour into their students. HT has done more for me than I ever imagined; it has provided an environment where I am seen authentically and supported not just as an athlete, but as a scholar and leader. This university has truly been a home away from home, and I am honored to represent Huston-Tillotson through both athletics and academics. HT has shaped me and continues to mold me into an outstanding African American woman.
What does being a student-athlete at HT mean to you?
Being a student-athlete at Huston-Tillotson University means being a part of a family with the full support of my community. It means being challenged academically, encouraged to lead, advocate for change, and continuously held to a high standard. This campus has given me the foundation to grow not just as a student-athlete, but as a young African American woman prepared to make an imprint on the world beyond Huston-Tillotson University.
What has been your biggest accomplishment so far this season?
My biggest accomplishment this semester has been the ability that God has given me to maintain a 4.0 GPA while navigating the demands of being a student-athlete, as well as stepping into the new role of Vice President for our emerging club, Voices in Medicine. Turning this idea into a plan of action that continues to grow has allowed me to develop as a leader, collaborate with others, and make a meaningful impact on our community. Working through academic challenges outside of my comfort zone and excelling in them has taught me discipline, adaptability, and teamwork, while also allowing me to build strong relationships with peers and mentors along the way.
What motivates you to excel academically and athletically?
My faith, trust, and belief in God motivates me every day to excel academically and athletically. God gives the best, and as His child, I strive to give my best in everything I do. His guidance keeps me disciplined, resilient, and focused on my goals, reminding me that each day is a gift and an opportunity to do better than the last. Knowing that my talents and opportunities are blessings inspires me to push myself, overcome challenges, and honor Him through my hard work, determination, and dedication both in the classroom and on the court.
Who has had the biggest impact on your athletic journey and why?
My parents have had the biggest impact on my athletic journey. Their constant support and encouragement have pushed me to excel, especially as I learned different cheer styles that were completely new to me. They have consistently taught me perseverance and reminded me to always give my best.
How do you balance academics, athletics, and personal life?
I am able to balance athletics, academics, and my personal life by being intentional with how I spend my time and by knowing what is worth my time and energy. I prioritize what helps me grow academically, personally, and athletically. These intentions allow me to stay on top of my work, be fully present in my sport, and still make time for myself and the people who support me.
What goals have you set for yourself for the remainder of the season?
For the remainder of the season, my goals are to continue excelling academically while also focusing on my growth as an individual. I want to remain disciplined in the classroom, give consistent effort in my sport, and keep developing mentally and personally.
What is something about you that most people don't know?
Something most people don't know about me is that I'm actually pretty reserved and tend to keep to myself. Being a cheerleader pushes me out of my comfort zone because it requires strong voice projection and confidence performing in front of an audience, but I enjoy the challenge. It has helped me grow, step outside of my shell, and become more comfortable expressing myself.
What advice would you give to future HT student-athletes?
The advice I would give to future Huston-Tillotson student-athletes is to remember what you came to college for and keep it at the forefront of your mind. Don't let distractions hold you back from fulfilling your calling. Keep God first, and everything will fall into place accordingly.
What song gets you hyped before a game?
