AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University cheerleader Joryan Harper was recognized as her sport's HT Rams Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of February. She is the third cheerleader to be honored as part of a new program to recognize HT's outstanding student-athletes in their sport and in the classroom.
Joryan is a sophomore at HT and in her second year as a member of HT's cheerleading squad. A kinesiology major, she is a trained dancer and is one of the squad members who help create dances for the team performances.

Desiree Haraway said. "She has a ton of energy on and off the sidelines."

Why did you choose to attend Huston-Tillotson University?
I was rewarded a scholarship. Also, the summer ideal program was a great opportunity for me.
What does being a student-athlete at HT mean to you?
To me it means pursuing excellence in the classroom, on the sidelines, and in my faith.
What has been your biggest accomplishment so far this season?
Improving my skills and successfully reaching team goals.
What motivates you to excel academically and athletically?
My scholarships, my eagerness to become a physical therapist, and my setbacks that I have overcome.
Who has had the biggest impact on your athletic journey and why?
My parents, my dad has been my coach and both parents have supported me through injuries.
How do you balance academics, athletics, and personal life?
I put everything on my calendar and I try to finish my school work a week in advance.
What goals have you set for yourself for the remainder of the season?
Keep my GPA at 3.6 or higher, and to accomplish at least one more skill in cheer.
What is something about you that most people don't know?
I write poetry.
What advice would you give to future HT student-athletes?
Don't get distracted by the fun events, they will always be there; and to keep going when things are hard.
