McCrae, Morales-Martinez repeat as conference weekly award winners

McCrae named Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season

NEW ORLEANS – Two Huston-Tillotson University women's soccer players added to their collection of weekly awards from the HBCU Athletic Conference as the league announced its recipients Monday.
 
HT juniors Mariyah McCrae (Anchorage, Alaska) and Juliet Morales-Martinez (Bertram, Texas) were recognized for their performances in matches during the week of Sept. 14 through 20.
 
Morales-Martinez was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. A goalkeeper, Morales-Martinez played all 180 minutes during HT's 1-1 week, which included a 2-1 victory at Texas A&M–San Antonio.
 
An alumna of Burnet High School northwest of Austin, Morales-Martinez made five saves in the win at A&M–San Antonio, which was the HT's first win over the Jaguars since TAMUSA's inaugural 2021 women's soccer season.
 
Morales-Martinez also made six saves in a setback to still-unbeaten Texas A&M–Texarkana. This week's award was her third such honor of her collegiate career and marks the third consecutive week in which an HT goalkeeper has been honored by the HBCU Athletic Conference.
 
McCrae was the repeat recipient of the conference's Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week awards. A transfer from NCAA Division I Jacksonville University, she led the Rams with three points (a goal and an assist) during the week.
 
A senior in terms of her academic progress, McCrae weaved around and through the A&M–San Antonio's defense and scored what turned out to be the match-winning goal in the 59th minute. She also assisted on Emily Guerrero's goal Saturday in the match against A&M–Texarkana.
 
McCrae currently leads the Rams with six goals this season. She has been named the conference's Newcomer of the Week in four of the season's first five weeks.
 
The HT Ewes return to action Tuesday, Sept. 22, when they host Wayland Baptist in a non-conference match at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
