WOMEN'S HOOPS: Rams open season Thursday, make home debut Saturday

AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University's women's basketball team opens its 2023-24 season Thursday when they visit NCAA Division I opponent Prairie View A&M for an exhibition contest.

The Rams and Panthers will tip off at 5:30 p.m. at William J. Nicks Arena on the Prairie View A&M University campus.

HT's 2023-24 schedule, which is now available to the public on htramsathletics.com, will consist of 25 regular-season games following Thursday's exhibition contest. Three non-conference games precede their 22-game Red River Athletic Conference schedule.

The Rams will make their home debut Saturday, Nov. 11, when they host the College of Biblical Studies at Branch Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game will also feature giveaways sponsored by Kicking It ATX.

"We are very excited to team up with Kicking It for our home opener," HT women's basketball coach Kendall DuCree said. "Hosting this event with Kicking It not only shows or support for black businesses, but it also shows that we support our alumni and our community as well. Another plus side to it is that we get to shed light on our women athletes here at HT."

The non-conference schedule also includes a trip to Houston on Nov. 14 for a rematch against the College of Biblical Studies, which has a new athletic program competing in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). The Rams will make the short trip to St. Edward's for a Nov. 21 contest.

"This tough preseason will mold us for conference play," DuCree said. "It's always tough playing against NCAA Division I and II schools. Exposing the team to tough competition usually help us prepare for the RRAC."

The team's RRAC schedule increased by two games this season with the addition of North American University to the league. The Rams begin RRAC play Thursday, Nov. 30 in Tyler at Texas College. Huston-Tillotson's Homecoming basketball doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10, when the Rams host Paul Quinn College.

The Rams will have a total of 12 home games this season, including 11 doubleheaders with the men's team.

"We are looking forward to the support from the campus community and surrounding community," DuCree said. "We are excited to get going and we can't wait to see our fans on game day."
