NEW YORK – Huston-Tillotson's track and field teams opened their 2024 indoor seasons Saturday at the HBCU Showcase Sponsored by KPMG. The meet was held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
The Rams competed with some of the top HBCU programs and athletes from the NCAA's Divisions I and II. Huston-Tillotson was the only NAIA program competing at the meet. On the women's side of the event, the Rams finished ahead of two NCAA Division II programs in the event's final standings.
Jaymee Yelton's performance in the women's 800-meter run highlighted the Rams' showings at the weekend event. The HT junior finished seventh out of 41 competitors with a time of 2 minutes, 22.25 seconds.
The finish by Yelton gave HT its points in the final event standings. It was also the top performance by a non-Division I competitor, as all six runners ahead of Yelton represented either Hampton or Norfolk State.
