ROUND ROCK, Texas – Huston-Tillotson University's women's soccer team continued their mastery of North American on Thursday as the Rams secured a 3-0 victory over the visiting Stallions.
Senior striker
Kayla Evans scored two goals for the Rams as HT snapped a four-match winless streak. It was the second multi-goal match for Evans, a transfer from NCAA Division I Mississippi Valley State; she also scored twice earlier this season at Jarvis Christian and leads the Rams with four goals.
HT's
Noelia Garcia staked her claim for the match's best goal with a 30-year free kick strike in 37th minute.
Neydelyn Bonilla assisted on Evans' match-winner in the 34th minute, while Evans added an unassisted goal nine minutes after halftime.
The Rams (3-8-1, 2-6-1 RRAC) controlled the pace of the match from the opening whistle. HT outshot the visiting Stallions 16-7 and limited their guests to only four shots on goal.
Juliet Morales-Martinez and
Zoey Gonzales made two saves apiece in the halves they each played.
Garcia and
Alicia Gonzales played 90 minutes apiece while anchoring the HT defense that gave the Stallions few quality chances at a score.
Huston-Tillotson's win over the Stallions (3-9-2, 1-8-1 RRAC) was the third in as many seasons against the Red River Athletic Conference's newest program. North American joined the conference in time for the 2022-23 season.
The Rams will now turn their attention to their next challenge, the Gold Nuggets of Xavier (La.). Xavier visits Austin as the RRAC's first-place team and one of the highest-scoring offenses in the NAIA.
HT's match against Xavier (La.) will be the final home match for the Rams in 2024. Kickoff between the Rams and Gold Nuggets is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Austin's Onion Creek Soccer Complex.
