Rams split first two HBCUAC soccer matches

HT hosts Paul Quinn College on Oct. 18 for Senior Day

AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University's men's soccer team played their first two league matches as a member program of the HBCU Athletic Conference and returned to Austin with a 1-1 split of those contests.

The Rams (6-6, 1-1 HBCUAC) opened league play with a win at Paul Quinn College last week before heading to Marshall, Texas where Wiley claimed a 2-0 victory earlier this week.

Thursday, Oct. 9 saw the Rams travel to Dallas to open conference play at Paul Quinn College. The Rams were in control of the match from start to finish as they claimed a 3-1 victory over the Tigers.

Alejandro Cruz notched his first goal of the season in the 14th minute, which was followed by Christian Kisukulu stretching HT's lead to 2-0 barely three minutes later. The Rams took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Manuel 'Lito' Guevara gave the Rams an insurance goal in the 54th minute off a pass from J.P. Alvarado. The goal was Guevara's team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Kisukulu's goal turned out to be the match-winner; it was his second game-winning goal of 2025.

Freshman goalkeeper Mauricio Olivares picked up the first win of his collegiate career at Paul Quinn.

Monday, Oct. 13 saw the HBCUAC's top two men's soccer teams at Wiley's Pemberton Field. Heading into the match, the Wildcats and Rams were the only teams in the league with winning overall records, as well as the only teams with more than two victories in 2025.

The Wildcats scored goals early in the first and second half to claim a 2-0 win. The Rams outshot Wiley 14-9 and enjoyed a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks but were unable to convert those chances.

The Rams return to action Saturday, Oct. 18, when they host Paul Quinn College at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. The HT soccer teams will honor their seniors prior to each game. The men's senior day festivities will commence at approximately 3 p.m., after the conclusion of the 1 p.m. women's match.
