ROUND ROCK, Texas – Huston-Tillotson University's women's soccer team concluded its regular season Monday and claimed one of the HBCU Athletic Conference's top seeds in the league's tournament as West Division champions.

The Rams claimed the conference's West Division championship and a bye in the first round of the conference tournament despite a 3-2 setback at home to Wiley on Monday.

Trailing 2-0 after halftime, the Rams (6-6-1, 3-1 HBCUAC) got a pair of quick goals from Kayla Evans and freshman Imeri Hernandez a little more than three minutes apart. Evans struck first with her seventh goal of the season in the 56th minute and then assisted on Hernandez' third goal of the year shortly before the hour mark.

Evans, a senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a transfer from NCAA Division I Mississippi Valley State, leads the Rams and ranks seventh in the conference in scoring with seven goals and one assist. She has scored in each of HT's last three matches.

The visiting Wildcats stunned their hosts in the 87th minute when Lizette Navarro's high, arcing header off Nadia Hernandez' corner kick went into the goal just out of reach of HT goalkeeper Juliet Morales-Martinez.

Nadia Hernandez assisted on all three Wiley goals.

Morales-Martinez made four saves for the Rams in the second half; Zoey Gonzales stopped three Wiley shots on goal in the first half.

The Wildcats (8-5-0, 2-2 HBCUAC) outshot the Rams 14-10 and held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. HT was unable to capitalize on an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks taken.

The win over HT gave Wiley a season split with the Rams. HT defeated Wiley 4-1 in Marshall, Texas, earlier this month.

The HBCU Athletic Conference soccer tournament begins Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Lee Hedges Stadium in Shreveport, La. The Rams will take the field Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. when they face the winner of the first-round match between Oakwood (Ala.) and Paul Quinn College.
