St. Thomas upends Huston-Tillotson 71-55

Rams return to conference play Saturday at Paul Quinn

HOUSTON – Huston-Tillotson University's women's basketball team opened a streak of seven consecutive road games Wednesday as they visited St. Thomas (Texas). The host Celts defeated their guests 71-55.

In the first matchup between the two teams since 2019, UST used a run of 12 unanswered points midway through the first quarter to take a lead the Celts would not relinquish as they improved their season record to 4-1.

At UST's Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center, Wilashia Burleson and Destiny Stanford led the way for the Rams, with Burleson scoring 15 points and securing nine rebounds. Stanford added 14 points for the Rams while also getting three steals in the game.

The Celts were led by Kameron Goodman's 18 points off the bench; UST's senior guard shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Junior forward Macie Whitfield chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Celts.

UP NEXT:
The Rams return to HBCU Athletic Conference play Saturday, Dec. 13, when they visit in-state rival Paul Quinn College in Dallas. The women's game, the first contest of a hoops doubleheader, is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
