HT Rams Student-Athlete of the Month: Shannon Robinson

AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University men's basketball player Shannon Robinson was recognized as his sport's HT Rams Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of February. He is the third men's basketball player to be honored as part of a program to recognize HT's outstanding student-athletes in their sport and in the classroom.

Shannon is a senior kinesiology major at HT who returned to the basketball team in time for the 2025-26 season after last playing for the Rams in 2023. He was a key contributor to the team during the 2025-26 season, playing in all 21 official contests and averaging 8.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Shannon led the team in rebounding and ranked third on the team in scoring. He earned the nomination for Student-Athlete of the Month from head coach John A. Smith after getting his grade-point average above 3.0 during the Fall 2025 semester. According to Coach Smith, Shannon "always lends a helping hand around campus and displays high character."

Why did you choose to attend Huston-Tillotson University?

To further my education and to win the HBCU conference.

 

What does being a student-athlete at HT mean to you?

It means a lot especially because of the situation I had a couple years ago and being able to push through that adversity.

 

What has been your biggest accomplishment so far this season?

Student athlete of the month will be my biggest accomplishment so far.

 

What motivates you to excel academically and athletically?

My family and my goal of just bettering myself.

 

Who has had the biggest impact on your athletic journey and why?

My Mom and Dad because they want me to be the best that I can be at everything.

 

How do you balance academics, athletics, and personal life?

Set aside time to better myself in my athletics and my academics.

 

What is something about you that most people don't know?

I like to go canoeing.

 

What advice would you give to future HT student-athletes?

Stay focused, and keep the main thing the main thing
