TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Huston-Tillotson University senior Cade Holzman added another award to his increasingly crowded trophy space, as he was the recipient of the HBCU Athletic Conference's Elite 9 Award last week at the league's postseason tournament.

The Elite 9 Award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average among their sport's participants. A senior from Austin, Texas (Bowie HS / Angelina College), Holzman finished the Fall 2025 semester with a 4.0 cumulative GPA.

"This honor represents the very best of what it means to be a true student-athlete: Excellence on the court and elite performance in the classroom," HT Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Vincent Robinson said.

Holzman balanced a busy classroom schedule with his dedication to the HT men's basketball program. He is double-majoring in kinesiology and education and is also a part of the African American Male Teacher Initiative. Holzman was the subject of a feature story by Austin's KXAN 36 News last month.

On the court, the 6-foot-8 forward ranked fourth on HT's team with an average of 7.2 points per game. His 1.5 blocked shots per game ranked second on the team and fourth in the HBCU Athletic Conference. Holzman earned the conference's Defensive player of the Week after his 15-point, six-block performance against Paul Quinn College in the HT's Homecoming game.

"Cade's discipline, commitment to academic success, and his ability to balance the demands of college athletics exemplify the championship standard," Robinson said.
