ROUND ROCK, Texas – People can debate whether Rams or Steers rank higher in the animal kingdom, but the mascots of the men's soccer teams representing Huston-Tillotson University and Texas College were evenly matched Sunday in a 1-1 draw.
Joel Prince Kisukulu (Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo / Texas Wesleyan) helped the Rams take a point when he converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute Sunday. The younger brother of HT alumnus and former men's soccer player
Christian Kisukulu, Joel Prince netted his second goal of the season.
The draw was HT's fifth in eight contests as the Rams upped their record to 0-3-5. Texas College, which got a goal from Aleksandar Gavric in the 15th minute, improved to 0-3-1.
Since winning the Red River Athletic Conference championship in 2011, the Rams are 3-6-4 against their longtime in-state and former RRAC rival. HT was in search of its first win over the Steers since a 3-0 triumph in northeast Texas in 2022.
HT appeared to put in the go-ahead goal off a corner kick less than two minutes before the final whistle, but the Rams were called for a foul and the goal was negated.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Luke Phillips (Liberty Hill, Texas / Liberty Hill) made six saves for the Rams.
HT returns to action Thursday, Sept. 17, when the Rams travel south for a women's-and-men's doubleheader at Texas A&M–San Antonio. The men's contest will be played second and is scheduled for 1 p.m. at TAMUSA's campus soccer field.
