NEW ORLEANS – Huston-Tillotson University took three of the HBCU Athletic Conference's four weekly women's soccer awards for the season's third week of play.

Junior striker Mariyah McCrae (Anchorage, Alaska) was named the conference's Newcomer of the Week, while goalkeeper Tatiana Castillo (Mission, Texas / Sharyland) claimed both Defensive Player and Freshman of the week awards. The awards were given for performances during the week of August 31 and Sept. 6.

McCrae, a transfer from NCAA Division I Jacksonville University in Florida, scored both goals in HT's 2-1 win at North American on Thursday. She scored in each half against the Stallions.

A first-year collegian, Castillo was the only HT goalkeeper to play two halves last week and led the Rams with six saves. She teamed with Juliet Morales-Martinez for a combined 0-0 shutout Tuesday at Southwestern (Texas).

Against North American on Thursday, Castillo made five saves to help preserve the Rams' first win of the season.

The Rams (1-2-1) travel to Texas Wesleyan on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The women's game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
