Rams topple Texas A&M–San Antonio 80-63 for second consecutive win

Four HT players score in double-figures to lead Rams to victory

AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University's men's basketball team never trailed Tuesday as the Rams claimed a 80-63 win over visiting Texas A&M–San Antonio.

Charles Hallmon posted his third consecutive double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Cade Holzman scored a game-high 20 points to lead four Rams in double-figures. Braelon Seals chipped in 17 points for the Rams (6-13, 6-11 RRAC).

Point guard Isaiah Halliburton scored 13 points for the Rams, which marked his season high. He also handed out nine assists, the highest individual total for any HT player season.

Blake Fisher added eight points for the Rams; Antwone Gonzales scored 14 points to lead Texas A&M–San Antonio (5-17, 4-14 RRAC).

The Rams led for more than 38 of the game's 40 minutes Tuesday, taking the lead for good on Hallmon's fast-break dunk with 18:02 left to play in the first half. HT controlled the pace of play after building a 19-4 lead with 13:29 left in the opening period.

The visiting Jaguars chipped away at HT's lead over the course of the half and twice cut the lead to one point early in the second half. A 12-3 HT run between the 14:57 and 11:27 marks of the second half helped the Rams build their lead back up to 14 at 63-49.

The Rams shot 51 percent (31 of 61) from the field for the game, and 57 percent (17 of 30) in the second half. They drained 39 percent (9 of 23) of their 3-point tries, their third best shooting percentage from long range this season.

HT's win was the second straight for the Rams, giving the team its first winning streak of the season.

The Rams return to action Saturday when they visit Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio. The Rams upset the Saints, who were then ranked 20th in the NAIA, when the teams met in December.

Tipoff between the Rams and Saints on Saturday, Feb. 1, is scheduled for 3 p.m.
