NEW ORLEANS – Huston-Tillotson University soccer players took five of the six weekly awards given by the HBCU Athletic Conference, the league announced this week.

Women's soccer player
Krystal Trejo was named both the Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week for her sport, while
Omar Ponce and
Juan Acosta were honored on the men's side.

A true freshman from Lockhart, Texas (Lockhart HS scored a go-ahead goal for the Rams in Saturday's 2-1 setback to former Red River Athletic Conference rival Texas A&M–San Antonio. Trejo gave the Rams a 1-0 first-half lead before a questionable yellow card given to teammate
Juliet Morales-Martinez set the visitors up for a match-tying penalty kick.

Trejo ranks fourth on the Rams with two goals and five total points in 2025.

On the men's soccer side, both Ponce and Acosta were honored for their heroics in a 1-1 week that included a dramatic 1-0 win at home over Louisiana Christian.

Ponce (Del Valle, Texas / Del Valle) was named the league's Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week. He scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute against the two-time defending RRAC champion Louisiana Christian University on Saturday.

Acosta (Austin, Texas / Crockett), the Preseason HBCUAC Goalkeeper of the Year, did not allow a goal in 117 minutes of playing time this week as he garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors. He earned a shutout against Louisiana Christian, stopping all four shots he faced; he leads the conference with three wins.

The win over LCU moved the Rams into first place in the HBCUAC's West Division.

HT's men's and women's soccer teams now turn their attention to conference play, with their next matches scheduled for Oct. 9 at Paul Quinn College in Dallas.
