SHREVEPORT, La. – Huston-Tillotson University's men's basketball team concluded its final road trip of the fall semester Saturday with a 94-74 setback at LSU–Shreveport.
Charles Hallmon scored 16 points to lead the Rams, who close out the semester Tuesday with a home game against Texas College. Hallmon shot 6-of-8 from the field and also pulled in five rebounds.
Taj Anderson and Melvion Flanagan scored 25 points and 20 points, respectively, for the host Pilots (8-5, 5-4 RRAC). The two players each made 10 free throws in the game, accounting for 25 of LSU–Shreveport's 45 free throw attempts.
The Rams scored the first seven points of the game before the Pilots, one of the Red River Athletic Conference's traditional powers, fought their way back into the contest. Still the Rams kept it close, not allowing LSU–Shreveport to gain more than a two-possession lead before halftime; the Pilots took a 42-37 lead into the midgame break.
LSU–Shreveport scored 13 of the first 15 points of the second half to take control of the game. The Pilots scored 52 points in the second half.
There were other bright spots, however, for the Rams, who saw 12 of their players score points in Saturday's contest. All five starters scored at least seven points, with
Khuath Gatkuoth and
Timothy Bradford scoring nine points apiece.
Jackson Byas and
Malkeyce Harris both scored eight points off the HT bench in the game.
The Rams host Texas College on Tuesday, Dec. 17, with the men's game scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The game was originally scheduled, for Saturday, Dec. 21, but the was moved ahead to allow the student-athletes to have a longer Christmas vacation.
