STAFFORD, Texas – Huston-Tillotson University's men's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season Saturday and snapped a three-game losing streak in the process as the Rams defeated North American (Texas) 70-53.
Charles Hallmon posted his seventh double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and securing 10 rebounds to lead four Rams in double-figures Saturday.
Cade Holzman added 14 points and pulled in seven rebounds for the Rams (5-13, 5-11 RRAC).
HT's
Jayce Wright scored 13 points and handed out three assists, while teammate
Braelon Seals scored 12 points and tallied five steals.
The Rams trailed only once in the game as they gave up the opening basket to North American's Oakley Lewis; Lewis led the Stallions with 15 points. Seals' 3-pointer three minutes into the first half gave the Rams the lead for good as it ignited a 14-2 HT run that stretched the visitors' lead to 14-4 midway through the half.
HT maintained control for the remainder of the game as the Rams took a 34-14 lead into halftime. The Rams held the Stallions to 19 percent shooting (4 of 21) from the floor during the opening 20 minutes. The HT lead never dipped below 14 points in the second half.
The Rams helped themselves at the free throw line by making 23 out of their 25 attempts (92 percent).
Saturday's win gave the Rams their first season sweep of the Stallions since the Red River Athletic Conference admitted North American as a member institution in time for the 2023-24 season.
The Rams return to action Tuesday, Jan. 28, when they host Texas A&M–San Antonio at HT's Branch Gymnasium. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will tipoff approximately 20 to 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game between the two schools.
