NEW ORLEANS – Huston-Tillotson University senior men's basketball player Cade Holzman was named the HBCU Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Holzman, a senior from Austin (Bowie HS / Angelina College), blocked six shots and pulled in eight rebounds in helping the Rams to a 95-92 overtime win over Paul Quinn on Homecoming Saturday. He also scored 15 points and tallied three steals.
A 6-foot-8 forward, Holzman ranks fourth on the Rams with an average of 7.0 points per game, and his 28 blocked shots ranks second on the team and fifth in the HBCU Athletic Conference.
In the classroom, Holzman is double-majoring in kinesiology and education. He was the men's basketball program's January Student-Athlete of the Month after finishing the Fall 2025 semester with a 4.0 GPA.
Holzman is also a part of the African American Male Teach Initiative and was the subject of a feature story by Austin's KXAN 36 News earlier this month. He was one of seven seniors honored Saturday before the Paul Quinn game.
The Rams return to action Tuesday when they visit Wiley University in Marshall, Texas, for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
