HT Alumnus Aaron Yancy named next men's soccer head coach

AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University alumnus Aaron Yancy was announced as the Rams' next men's soccer coach Wednesday.

A four-year letterwinner for HT's men's soccer team, Yancy returns to his alma mater after having served as a club coach and administrator in the Austin area over the past decade. He graduated from HT in 2011 and was part of the Rams' Red River Athletic Copnference championship team in 2006.

"I'm excited to be back at Huston-Tillotson," Yancy said. "The school has always felt like home and I hope to bring the program another championship."

Yancy comes to Huston-Tillotson from FC Westlake in Austin, where he is still involved as a coach in the club's Elite program. He previously served as an assistant coach at HT from 2014 through 2016, and again in 2020 and 2021.

He served as a coach with the Lonestar Soccer Club from 2013 through 2021, leading competitive teams to top-three finishes in various divisions. Three of Yancy's Lonestar teams reached the state finals under his leadership; he coached teams ranging from the Under-11 up through the Under-19 age groups.

"We are thrilled to announce that Aaron Yancy has been appointed as the new head men's soccer coach for our university," Director of Athletics Thomas Henderson said. "With an impressive resume and a strong passion for the sport, we believe he is the perfect fit to lead our soccer program to new heights."

More recently, Yancy served as the Director of SA City Soccer Club in San Antonio from 2021 through 2023, where he also had duties as a college placement director. He was also the head coach for Jubilee Leadership Academy in Wells Branch.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Yancy graduated from high school in Mansfield, Texas, before enrolling at Huston-Tillotson.

"We are confident that Aaron Yancy's expertise, leadership, and dedication will elevate our men's soccer program and inspire our student-athletes to achieve both on and off the field," Henderson said. "His experience as a player and coach, combined with his commitment to nurturing talent and fostering team dynamics, make him an ideal fit for HT."
